The American Oldsmobile

Oldsmobile is the brand name of Olds Motor Vehicle Company and it was located in Lansing, Michigan, USA and the founder member of this company was Ransom.E.Olds in the year 1897. In the 1901, the company produced 425 cars annually and the production number was considered as the first high volume production of automobile of contemporary age. For some time Olds were the highest car producers of US auto world. After that due to some internal reason, Mr. Old himself left the company and formed a new company, named as REO Motor Car Company. In 1907 the Curved Dash Model was produced for the last time and in 1908 the Old Motor Company was taken over by General Motors.

From 1901-1904 the market demand for this Curved Dash was high in demand. The Old Company introduced a fine assembly line to produce the car. When in the year 1989 Old sold his company it was primarily renamed as Olds Motor Works and the factory was relocated to Detroit, USA. By March 1901 all the prototype models were ready for production but there was a mishap; the factory was set in fire and the only model that survived from the destruction was Curved Dash Prototype and this is the reason the production of this model started immediately after the fire incident in a new factory.

As the cars were from the old factory, these were named as Old’s Automobile and colloquially were called as Oldsmobile. It was the background of the Old family that was considered first as the potential of this range of vehicle but ultimately the cars itself proved as worth buying and the brand earned huge popularity. Till date Oldsmobile cars are considered as a legacy in the history of world Automobile innovation. Cutlass cars are till date considered the optimum parameter of elegance, luxury and engine quality worldwide. In the hand of General Motors many additions and modifications were added to its vehicles but the old names were unchanged to retain the Oldsmobile flavor in the purchaser.
