Oldsmobile Model 442

Oldsmobile 442 is a controversial Oldsmobile version of automobile. Most of the people believe by its name that 442 is a designation and this designation is originated from the measurement of engine displacement which was measured in cubic inches. But contrary to the real fact, the engine of 442 was never with a 442 cubic engine. But this designation was created by certain attributes of the 1964 model like,

4: four on the floor

4: 4 barrel Carburetion

2:dual exhaust outlets

 

Although the late editions of 442 did not followed this statistics religiously and some deviations are observed here in the specifications, but in some of the later model this 4-4-2 configuration worked like this:

 

4: 400 cubic inch displacement

4: Four barrel carburetion

2: Dual exhaust outlet

All this attributes were implanted in 1965 model where automatic transmission proper was implanted for the first time.

 

Oldsmobile 442 was considered as a different automobile entity onward1968 to 1971. In the year1968, this model were sold by 33,000.The wheelbase of this car was 112 inches. The engine configuration and mechanism was really superb at that time and the bore was decreased in size so that the torque and emissions can be improved in quality and output.

 

Car life was tasted with 1968 version of 442. The axel ratio quantity was3:42 and has attained 0-60 times of 7.0 seconds and when the time of mile with15.13 second set the speed at 92mph. Under ideal conditions the optimum speed of this car was measured as 115mph.

 

The base motor is, till date, rated as 350 HP with automatic standard 3 and 4; automatics are rated 325 HP and automatic systems’ amount  are of 350 HP.

 

All standard engines of Oldsmobile were painted with bronze and copper color and in case of 1967 cars, it came with afire red cleaner.

 

It has a 455 bored 30 over with a Comp Cams roller cam with roller rockers and roller lifters. With a polished Offenhauser dual quad intake with 2 Carter 500 competion series carbuaters.Polished Offenhauser valve covers MSD 6al with billet distributer and Taylor Made wires. It has a factory 12 bolt positraction rear end with 391:1 gears. A muncie 4 speed with the factory Hurst shifter.Power windows,power drivers seat,tilt wood wheel,vacuum trunk release,tinted glass! Hooker headers with 3 inch Tourque Tech exhaust with Flow Master mufflers all coated by Jet Hot. Paint is factory correct color Dark Jade Gold with non factory pearl white hood stripe.Wheels are polished American Tourque Thrust II 15×7 front with 215/70/15 BF Goodrich TA and 15×8 275/60/15 BF Goodrich TA on the rear.
