American Oldsmobile

The Oldsmobile 88 was a full-fledged car in its performance and popularity wise and the car was being produced by this company since 1949 until 1999. In fact in the time bracket of 1950, this model was highly popular and this craze was there till 1974. Its entry level models were in top selling number and these models were named as Dynamic 88 and 88only. The 88 series was an image leader for Oldsmobile range of cars and in the time bracket of 149-51 this car was highly praised for its smaller size, advanced overhead-valve high compressionV8 engine, and foe light weight.

There are many members of this 88 batch with different names. Out of this range the names like Dynamic, Delmont, Jetstar, Starfire, Super, Holiday, Celebrity and Royale deserves special mention. Fiesta was introduced later. The trend was earlier phase to show the names by number in later phase, it came like spell out manner.

88 Oldsmobile was produced in Wentzville, Missouri, Lake Orion, Michigan, Flint, Michigan. The models of Oldsmobile of 1055 were heavily renovated and some alterations were imposed on it. The new grill work, body side chrome, and taillights are the new add on items in the car. Wrap around windshields and rear windows are the hot craze of those days. For better speed and ensuring better safety, wheel base was changed to 122 inches and base models of 88 versions were called Deluxe 88s for that lunching year and Super 88 was included in the medium-line-series.

The Oldsmobile versions were entirely changed and the body shells were made longer in size; the specialties were in rear window and cover around windshields. The Rocket V8 was distended from 303 to 324 cubic inches and for extra power generation a two- barrel 170 HP unit was introduced in the car where the primary version was launched with 185 HP engine with 4-barrel carburetor. The Delta version of this car had a unique alert system for driver where the driver was being alerted about some specific but unseen problems of the car by a sensor fitted voice.
